Communication is one of the most beautiful things in life. It allows us to connect with others, build relationships, express ourselves and sail through life. Many people mistake communication for speech, however, communication occurs in various forms such as signing, gesture, writing, eye contact, electronic interaction, speech and many more. For me, it is important to ensure that everyone has a ‘voice’ and is heard, regardless of the method of communication.

I think that being a Speech and Language Therapist is about building relationships, self-esteem and confidence, teaching skills and introducing personalised methods to communicate, giving someone a ‘voice'. Every client is an individual and is treated as one in order to reach their goals and to support them in however they choose to communicate. A fundamental part of Speech and Language Therapy for me, is to also raise awareness and understanding within society, helping others to recognise the other forms of communication, to ensure the society we live in, is an inclusive one”.

My favourite word is ‘Idyllic’ meaning “extremely happy, peaceful or picturesque”. It reminds me of where I grew up in France and I feel like even saying the word brings me a sense of peace.
