Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

I chose a career in Speech and Language Therapy as I wanted a people-orientated profession that is founded in scientific research, while also drawing on my love for languages and creativity. 10 years in, and I still enjoy every day and feel privileged to do what we do.

Just as no two people are the same, no two clients, or days (!) are the same as a Speech and Language Therapist. There are always opportunities for learning and creative thinking, and witnessing those 'aha!' moments when our clients begin to see progress and thrive, which make the job so rewarding.

My approach is warm, curious, person-centered, dynamic and empathetic. I also take a neurodiversity-affirming approach; this means celebrating unique strengths and empowering individuals to feel confident being themselves, while providing skills, tools, and strategies to support participation and success.

My favourite word at the moment is 'glimmer.'  This makes me think of a flickering light, and in mental health terms a 'glimmer' is something that sparks feelings of joy and safety. These can be tiny, every day things, like taking a minute to look up at a clear blue sky or, (for me!), a large coffee in a favourite mug.

A close second favourite is 'snack'!
