Speech and Language Therapist

Hello! I am Beth, a very passionate Speech and Language Therapist. I decided to pursue a career in Speech and Language Therapy after hearing about it for the first time whilst I was in college. I knew I wanted a job in caring and supporting others, and I had always loved English at school. To me, it felt like two of my passions combined! The more I researched, the more I knew it was the job for me. I feel that Speech and Language Therapy helps people find their 'voice' by understanding their most effective way to communicate with the world. I believe everyone deserves a 'voice', however that manifests for them, and everyone deserves to have their 'voice' heard, their ideas listened to and their opinions valued. This is why Speech and Language Therapy is so important to me.

Helping people overcome communication barriers and giving them more independence, more opportunities and more meaningful moments of communication is incredibly rewarding. I love being creative and ensuring that therapy is person-centred, feels fun, exciting, safe and comfortable. I also enjoy collaborating with parents/carers and other professionals to ensure that our goals are aligned and we are working together towards the same outcome. I look forward to learning more about how I can help others overcome those barriers and feel more empowered in their lives.

My favourite word is ‘intertwine’, meaning to twist two or more things together, or to connect them so closely that they are hard to separate. This reflects how I feel peoples' lives connect. We are connected in some way even to those who feel furthest away from us.

The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it.
