Speech and Language Therapist
I chose to work in speech and language therapy because I believe communication is a fundamental right, and everyone deserves support to express their needs, wants, and views. My interest in the field began while working in schools, where I saw how meaningful adaptations could make a real difference for children with communication difficulties. Over time, I realised that speech and language therapy is about much more than communication alone; it can support confidence, learning, social skills, and overall development, helping children thrive in many areas of their lives. These experiences prompted reflection on my own childhood and community, strengthening my commitment to promoting inclusion and advocating for others.
I also value creativity in my work and enjoy using children’s interests to support their development. I have a strong appreciation for storytelling and film, and the way imaginative worlds and modern expression can help us understand others and reflect on the past. I bring this creativity into my practice, particularly when working with children, to create engaging, meaningful therapy that supports both communication and growth.
My favourite word is 'Sonder': I initially liked the sound of this word as when I heard it, it made me feel calm and relaxed but when looking up the definition (the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own) it made me like it even more as such a simple and free flowing word had such a deep and meaningful definition.
