Information for teens considering speech & language therapy

The first thing your therapist will do is help you to work out exactly what you want to get out of your work with them. Your current communication strengths and needs will be evaluated during the initial assessment so that we have a baseline measure of where you are now with your communication skills. Once we have identified clear goals that reflect exactly what you want to achieve and where you want to get to, we will work through the steps to get there, together. You and your therapist will agree homework activities for you to do in between sessions, to help you work towards your goals. Your parent or carer will normally not be involved in your therapy sessions, unless you want them to be. This is your therapy journey and it’s important that we work on the things that matter most to you.
