Information about Speech and Language Therapy for parents / carers of teens
Your teenager is at a point in their life where they are evolving and changing. We are here to help them build their confidence, not just in communicating their unique thoughts and perspectives to those around them but also in their sense of self. Our work with teenagers relies on parent and carer support and buy-in to be effective, however your direct participation in the sessions is often not required. Your teenager needs the space to speak their mind freely in therapy sessions and so we ask that you bring them to sessions while respecting their autonomy to be in charge of their own therapy journey. Their current communication strengths and needs will be evaluated during the initial assessment process so that we have a baseline measure of where they are now with their communication skills. We may well need your input into this part of the intervention process. Your teen’s therapist will guide you on how much input they will need from you and at what point this is needed.
